Transversal Distraction

Transversal discrepancies are among the most frequent craniofacial disorders in cranio-maxillofacial surgery. Bone-borne devices offer clear advantages in comparison to tooth-borne solutions, as
they allow simultaneous treatment by the orthodontic team leading to a significant reduction of the overall treatment time.

KLS Martin has done pioneering work in transversal distraction osteogenesis. With the RPE transversal distractor, the Rotterdam midline distractor, the Bologna and the Rotterdam mandibular distractors the company offers four important bone-borne strategies which make sure the surgeon has the complete choice of bone-borne solutions for a reliable skeletal base for adequate positioning of teeth.

Devices for transverse palatinal distraction

Rotterdam Palatal Distractors (RPD)

Indications:
  • Extreme transversal, unilateral or bilateral maxilla crowdings in syndrome and non-syndrome patients
  • Anterior tooth crowdings and buccal corridors (dead spaces)
Features:
  • Distraction length: 19 mm
  • Distraction length/turn: The Rotterdam Palatal Distractor works mechanically like a scissor-type jack, so the distraction length per turn decreases the higher the number of turns
  • No screws needed
Benefits:
  • Due to the scissor-type jack design, minimum initial space is required

Rapid Palatal Expander (RPE)

Indications:
  • Extreme transversal, unilateral or bilateral maxilla crowdings in syndrome and non-syndrome patients
  • Anterior tooth crowdings and buccal corridors (dead spaces)
Features:
  • Distraction length: 9 mm, 18 mm, 27 mm, 36 mm
  • Distraction length/turn up to the next color code: 0.33 mm
  • To be fixed with 2.0 mm Screws
Benefits:
  • Color coded according to distraction length
  • Templates available for correct choice of distractor size
  • Also available as sterile kit

Rotterdam Midline Distractors

Indications:

The Rotterdam Midline Distractor is to be used for distraction osteogenesis of the mandibular symphysis in cases of severe crowding of the mandibular region and transversal mandibular deficits.

Features:
  • Distraction length: 15 mm
  • Distraction length/activation of 90°: 0.25 mm
  • To be fixed with 2.0 mm Screws
Benefits:
  • Activating wire is included in set

Bologna Midline Distractors

Indications:

The Bologna Midline Distractor is to be used for distraction osteogenesis of the mandibular symphysis in cases of severe crowding of the mandibular region and transversal mandibular deficits.

Features:
  • Distraction length: 15 mm
  • Distraction length/activation of 90°: 0.25 mm
  • To be fixed with 2.0 mm Screws
Benefits:
  • Activating wire is included in set
  • The distractor offers the combination of bone-borne and tooth-borne anchorage. The attached steel bar enables a stable fixation with the dental anchoring and in this way allows a parallel bone and dental arch widening. Therefore a maximum reliability of force transmittance can be guaranteed.
